Summer Florals

Romper - Necessary Clothing
Sandals - Marshalls
Necklaces - Gift + Walmart

I saw this romper on the NastyGal website, but it was out of stock and more than I would have spent anyways. The more I saw it pop up on other blogs and Pinterest, the more I loved it- it was such a pretty color and print and I was crazy about the kimono sleeves. I was browsing a website called Necessary Clothing and there it was- the lovely floral romper I had been day-dreaming about. Not only was my size available, but it was HALF the price of the romper I saw earlier. What?  Done and done. If you follow me on Instagram (@FrancescaPenko), you've already seen this romper pop up. It just might be one of my favorite summer purchases.

Happy Friday and thank you for reading!

Scalloped Linen Skirt

Tuesday, July 9, 2013

Equipement Blouse: Thrifted ($4.99)
Linen Skirt: Plato's Closet ($12)
Wedges: Marshalls
Nine West Sunglasses: Marshalls ($9)
Necklace: c/o INPINK (here)

If you have watched my first thrift haul, you may recognize this blouse. It's the Equipment blouse I scored for only $4.99- which is unheard of, but not by thrift store standards! It's such a great top and one of my favorite thrift store purchases by far.
I’ve received a few requests for work attire, so I put together this outfit that is perfect for everyday events, yet appropriate for work. Each item is very simple, but when paired together, makes a beautiful statement. This silk Equipment blouse contrasted so well with the gold jewelry and white linen skirt; I kept my other items very neutral to keep it workplace appropriate. Depending on where you work, you may need to switch out the open-toed wedges for closed-toed shoes, but I decided these summer wedges were the perfect finishing touch.
Also, how great is this necklace from INPINK?! I’m obsessed with the site and know you budget gals will enjoy it too! INPINK was so kind to offer a discount code for my readers, so you can enjoy these gorgeous baubles too!

Today is my 1 year anniversary of blogging! I can't believe I've been doing this for a year. Crazy! Thank you so much for all the support, positive feedback, and love. It's been such a blast.

In celebration, I wore a festive summer ensemble: a sequin blouse, nude high heels, and beautiful floral jeans. I scored these sandals at the thrift store for only $3. I couldn't wait to put an outfit together with them and these floral pants by Current/Elliott were the perfect match!

Eyelet Peplum

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

Peplum Blouse: H&M ($15!)
Paige Jeans: Nordstrom Rack Clearance ($25!)
Heels: H&M
Clutch: Vintage
Bracelet: DIY

I'm back!
I would be lying if I said I didn't miss blogging, but it was a nice break. I had an amazing month serving alongside my husband and so many new friends. It was like a slice of heaven.

I got this beautiful peplum blouse before I left for camp. It is so feminine and I was drawn the eyelet detail on the front of the blouse. It could easily be transitioned into a fall/winter piece with the addition of a blazer or leather jacket, so you will definitely be seeing this top again! I added a pretty beaded bracelet (made in the car ride up to camp), vintage clutch, and high waisted flared Paige jeans for a ladylike look.

DIY Cutoff Shorts

DIY Cutoff Shorts

Supplies:
Jeans or shorts
Scissors
Embroidery needles
Embroidery thread (seen above)
Studs (if you like)
Fabric
*Optional-sewing machine.
It's a small amount of sewing so it could be done by hand.

I started by cutting the jeans to my desired length. I usually start long and go shorter. So this time I made a few cuts. The picture shows 2 but I made about 4.
*Always try on in-between cuts!

Next, I layered the fabric over the shorts.
There really was no easy way for me to do this so I lifted the fabric, then cut a few inches and repeated that until the whole section was cut out.

Next, I pinned into place. I put a few sides through my sewing machine, but it was difficult for me to sew using my machine without sewing the shorts together so I did it in sections. The hard to sew sections (the pockets!) I used embroidery thread to add a decorative touch and keep the fabric in place.

I kept the colors of the fabric in mind when I purchased the thread. I wanted it to accent the fabric and add a boho look to the shorts. I used an embroidery needle and had the thread looping over the denim edge pictured above.

I then decided to add a few decorative thread accents on the bottom corner with a couple scattered studs and on the pockets to tie the fabric into the whole pair of shorts.

Top: Thrifted ($4)
DIY Shorts: Thrifted ($10)
Sandals: Thrifted ($10)

This was such a fun DIY! It was an easy project and will be perfect for any summer shorts makeover.
The possibilities are endless with this DIY- whether it's stitching words with thread, adding fabric on both sides, or threading the entire pair in a cool design.
I wanted to showcase the beautiful shorts so I kept the rest of my outfit simple. I've been searching for the perfect nude sandals that weren't too light for my skin tone and came across these beauties at a local thrift store. It's like they were made for me. And they were only $10!

I will be taking a little blog vacation because I'm volunteering for a few weeks at a camp. So what better way to leave y'all then with a little project for you to do when I'm gone :)
Thank you so much for all your support and I can't wait to come back!
