Summer is beginning to wind down and this upcoming season is an exciting one for us – Uriah will be starting Preschool. We visited a few different schools in town before finding the perfect one for our little guy. This will be a big transition to be in a class with new friends and teachers. Sometimes the transition can be overwhelming, so keeping Uriah’s school year organized, stress-free and fun is important! Thanks to Marshalls we were both able to get ready for the new school year while staying in budget! Here are some of my tips and tricks for having this year become your best year yet.
Fresh Start
There is something about a brand new notebook, an unopened container of play dough, or freshly sharpened colored pencils that just have potential for endless amounts of imagination and creation. Clean the slate and stock up on all your school essentials. We were able to score all these supplies and then a few others for under $15! We especially love the specialty gel crayons ($2 compared to $7) and our favorite brand of molding clay (a 4 pack for only $2.49).
Include Your Little Ones
Let your children help pick out the items they will be using all year long! Uriah spent about 10 minutes deciding in between a few backpacks and opted for a bright blue backpack that was $14.99 compared to $30. He couldn't wait to fill it with all his new supplies!
Everything Has A Place
Pick a section of your home that is the designated “school zone.” We cleared the sideboard in the living room and filled it with all of his school supplies. He used the coffee table as his workstation and it's the cutest thing ever. We also picked up some pen holders at Marshalls to have a spot for all his different sized crayons, pencils, and markers. The same goes for parents! I upgraded my office supplies with a new planner (so many dates to remember), file folders for all those important pieces of paperwork, and a few other key items.
Capsule Closet
Mornings can be hectic, especially at the start of a new school year! When your purchasing clothing, opt for high-quality, simple items that will last the entire year. I gravitated towards pieces that would all work well together and that could be worn as the seasons changed. I was so surprised to find a 2 piece set by Seven For All Mankind for only $16.99 – are those joggers not the cutest thing ever?!
Keep It Balanced
A balanced meal makes all the difference for how Uriah’s day goes. I had heard all about these specialty lunch boxes online, but $25 seemed a little steep. Well, low and behold, Marshalls carries the exact same specialty lunch boxes I had checked out online. Except instead of the hefty $25 price tag, they were priced at $9.99. They have multiple sealed Tupperware sectionsinside, a built in ice cooler, and an air tight lid. Uriah is so excited about his new lunchbox, he insists on using it whenever it's lunch time..even if we're at home!
These are just a few ways I keep the school year running smoothly and my family organized. The 2017/2018 school year is on the horizon and the future is bright thanks to Marshalls.
