Everyone needs a go-to dress and the accessories to go with it - I have a few and they are total lifesavers! With a couple changes in accessories, you take that dress, whether it's a silky shirt dress or lacy white dress, from day to night. This means changing up the accessories and other elements of a look, but not the dress. This helps make it simple for gals to get off work or being at home with kids and head right back out the door without spending hours getting ready. I'm always looking for ways to restyle items in my closet and not just in ways you would think. While mixing up how you pair items is another way to get lots of wear out of pieces in your closet, I like to do something a little differently-- wear my dresses as blouses! When I received this dress from Marshalls (thanks, guys!), my favorite part was the beautiful lace neckline- so feminine and delicate. I thought the best way to show you how versatile dresses can be, I styled it two ways to show how you can take this lacy dress from day to night!
Let's start with the daytime look
You might not necessarily wear a fancier dress out on a weekday afternoon or getting lunch with girlfriends, so I decided to layer over a more casual denim skirt. This breaks up the lace and adds a more laid-back vibe, plus it showcases my absolute favorite part of the dress -- the neckline! I added booties, a fun statement necklace, and a fringed crossbody. Just by adding another layer over the dress, it became an extra piece in your closet!
Now for how we take it to the evening:
This lace dress is perfect for girls's night out or date night -- it has an amazing silhouette and pretty feminine details, so you want to make the dress the spotlight of the outfit! With evenings still being cool, I added a bold blazer for warmth and style. Can we just talk about this amazing blazer for one second? I scored this Rebecca Minkoff beauty on a recent trip to Marshalls. When I spotted it on there rack, I didn't even care about the size because it needed to come home with me. Luckily it was my size!
When a woman wants to take her dress from day to night seamlessly, she needs to pick out the right dress for the job. This lace dress worked perfectly for me, because it has a simple silhouette that could easily be layered over.
More tips on taking your dresses from day to night
- Shoes and jacket help alter the look and feel of a dress. This is the simplest way to take it from day to night!
- Jewelry is a great way to elevate a look for the evening. You can stick to simple jewels or trendy items during the day and wear more classic items for your nighttime look.
- Purses! Stick to casual crossbody bags for your daytime look and clutches for evening wear.
- Makeup is another way you can transition your look. Stick to lighter, natural makeup for daytime and add a bright lip or smokey eye for your evening look.
