Refreshing My Home

How perfect is this marble bookend? I spotted it for a whopping $3 in the clearance area

Alright, I may have splurged on a bag too!

If you spot this candle on the shelves at Marshalls, please pick it up and smell it.
I promise you that angels will sing!

Every once in a while I get an itch to purge and refresh my home. We finished our remodel in December and with the stress of the holidays, I have been seriously slacking in the decorating department. With the year starting and a new baby coming in a few weeks (hello, nesting!) I'm itching to get the house in order. Refreshing your home can be a large scale project or something as small as swapping out a few items to your home. One of my favorite ways to freshen up my house is by bringing in fresh greenery from my backyard and lighting clean smelling candles. My home can be crazy, but this helps bring a little serenity and peace to my everyday routine.

I went to my favorite Marshalls to pick up a few goodies for my kitchen and fireplace decor. I always head there first because I know that I won't spend a fortune on quality pieces. We splurged on beautiful leathered Quartzite countertops, so I really wanted a nice cutting board that we could add on top. Not only does it protect our counters, but it's such a statement. We've received so many compliments on the handcrafted board. I always laugh because who knew you would get so many compliments on a cutting board! One of the items that was important to us when designing our kitchen was to have some glass front cabinets to display pretty dishware and vases. When all the cabinets were put in, I realized I didn't really have much to display, so I've slowly been collecting pieces like this beautiful pale aqua vase for only $12.99. We have a tree full of bay leafs in our yard and I frequently clip pieces off to leave in a vase. So clean and fresh!

Another project we finished in December was our fireplace facelift. We went for a very clean and simple design and wanted minimal decor on the fireplace to show off the beautiful details. The one must-have item was to find a large piece of art or mirror to add above it. Round mid-century style mirrors have been filling up Pinterest feeds everywhere, so you can understand my excitement when I found this amazing (and heavy!) piece at Marshalls. I was excepting a hefty price tag but it was only $149.99. Score! Those are just a few ways I've refreshed my home and added a little beauty here and there. Now if only I can catch up on my never-ending laundry pile!

Tart Hat - c/o Marshalls
Sam Edelman Heels - Ross

Finding a non-maternity dress (that fits!) when you're almost 8 months pregnant is always an exciting moment. And this beauty was under $50, so it was really hard to pass up. I've been opting for loose dresses, because it's something I will be more likely to wear after the baby arrives. It's nice giving the bump some room to breathe and not feel so constricted. As I'm hitting 32 weeks, you will be seeing dresses a lot more!

Slowing Down

Suede jacket, Paige jeans, Sam Edelman studded heels - c/o Marshalls
Alexis blouse - Nordstrom Rack

Yesterday I reached the 31 week mark in my pregnancy. I was thinking that in around 8 weeks I'll have another little one, sleepy eyes, and a full(er) heart. I'm really taking the time to slow down, especially on work, and savor these few weeks with Uriah. I know a lot of parents always say that they struggle or have fear around this time when they're expecting their second. When the time comes and our sweet baby is here, my heart will double in size and not even think twice about any fears or nervousness of having two. And I can't wait to see Uriah holding his brother or sister.

Now let's talk about this outfit! Certain items are worth the splurge - that great bag you've been eying, a nude heel that goes with literally everything, jeans that are like a second skin. The list goes on! While splurging may be difficult at the time, there isn't one investment piece that I regret purchasing. I find most of them when the item goes on sale or if I'm able to score them at Marshalls. I'm sure you've seen suede jackets all over Instagram or Pinterest, because they are huge this season. It's a great texture to add to your outfit and they come in so many more colors than typical leather jackets do. When I spotted this beauty at Marshalls for under $100, it wasn't hard to pull the trigger! I brought some more texture into the outfit with a feminine blouse by Alexis and killer studded heels. Opting for beautiful textures and details can elevate what may seem like a simple outfit to a chic one.
